Spacedoor

    Spacedoor

    Doorway Doorway

Open modus: Seeds on your outpost during outpost phase. Spacedoor is now open, reducing outpost's SHIELDS by 8 (cumulative). In place of your normal card play, you may either "overhaul" one of your empty ships here (return ship to hand; nullifies any Static Warp Bubbles affecting you) OR download to here one Spacedock or ❖  Ship that is compatible with outpost. Then close (flip over) Spacedoor.
Closed modus: Spacedoor is now closed (no longer reduces SHIELDS) and immune to cards which close doorways. While opponent has Red Alert! in play, this outpost is also in "alert status" and you may use that event's game text at this outpost. At end of any of your turns, you may re-open (flip over) this Spacedoor by discarding any card from your hand.

    Characteristics: manipulate your hand.
    Requires: Outpost, ❖ ship.

    Rule hint for this card

    This card has an clarification:

This doorway seeds only on an outpost (not other types of facilities). When you return an empty ship to hand, any cards aboard (equipment) or played on it (such as events) are also returned to their owners’ hands. See in play.

If this doorway is closed by another card, such as Revolving Door, do not flip over the Spacedoor.

You may seed more than one Spacedoor, but you cannot overhaul or download more than one ship per turn. You may download only one ship in place of your normal card play, even if you have Red Alert! in play. See card play.

You may not use the discard for a Static Warp Bubble or other card to also re-open a Spacedoor. See discarding.

Sure, you can't stock it in a deck or side deck. Sure you have to discard a card to re-open it. But isn't what it can do worth it? For people playing a lot of Test Propulsion Systems missions, it can help you get out enough universal ships to make a run to two or three at a time. Being able to return a ship to your hand is even better, getting rid of "Junior", Tsiolkovsky Infection, and Static Warp Bubble.

The best use of the Door is for a Borg deck. If you don't want to stock too many Cubes, just download one then close the door behind it. Even better, when the door is closed, you can use your opponent's Red Alert, so if you have an opponent who is Red Alert-happy, you can get a Cube staffed in no time, without using too many Activate Subcommands in the process.

    Combos:
Spacedoor + Test Propulsion Systems deck: Constant universal ships, as long as you have enough cards to throw out.

Spacedoor + Borg deck: Cube on the first turn, tent and Retask free!
