Joseph Sisko: Are things really as bad as the news service claims?
Captain Sisko: Maybe worse.
Joseph Sisko: Well, you certainly know how to comfort a frightened old man.
-“A Time to Stand”
It’s the beginning of the sixth season of Deep Space Nine and things are not looking good for the Federation/Klingon alliance against The Dominion. The Federation has suffered defeat after defeat and morale is low throughout the fleet. They are looking for a big victory to boost themselves up and Sisko and Crew are assigned to the task. They are asked to take the Salvaged Attack Ship to blow up the main supply depot for Ketracel-White in the Alpha Quadrant. The abilities of this Sisko and the new Salvaged Attack Ship represent the clandestine nature of this mission. I especially like how they both have the icon, rather than . After all, the station was at that time.
This ship-commander pair made me want to build a new deck as soon as I saw it. I have always been fascinated by the large number of missions attemptable by both and personnel that require Intelligence. Since Call to Arms came out I have looked fondly at those missions and returned them to the binder when building a deck because the skill set and attribute requirements always seemed to be out of reach. The new Salvaged Attack Ship gives your personnel an attribute boost when they are at the same mission as the ship. It’s nice that it broadcasts the boost down to a planet. Sisko boosts himself at the same type of mission and you can also add one of the mission’s skills to your skill set.
I’ve started working on the deck for this article, but it’s not quite ready for primetime. One of the drawbacks is that the Salvaged Attack Ship only boosts personnel, not all , and most of your Intelligence personnel have icons. I still need to play with my personnel selection more in order to get things right. I’ve had to be judicious with the number of Intelligence missions I’ve picked, since only three personnel with icons can benefit from the Salvaged Attack Ship. The rest of the Intelligence (and some Leadership, Officer, etc.) is being picked up by a number of different personnel, so they can’t benefit from the boost. Those personnel will benefit from the Paranoia cards I’ve splashed in. Overall, I really like how this pair of cards opens up new possibilities in mission sets. I hope we'll see more cards like this in the future.
