Hints & strategie notes for this Deck

This deck was played by Johannes Klarhauser in the main event of the Grand Prix Convention 2007.

The deck was 4-2 after six rounds. It's only Full Loss was to a Borg solver and it had a Modified Loss against a Romulan/Cardassian Dissident deck. The other four games were all Full Wins, which was good enough to finish 4th in a field of 26. In the quarterfinals the deck beat a Borg solver, only to be eliminated by the eventual Grand Prix 2007 winner Jens Beilstein and his Dominion Defiant deck in the semifinals.

    Gameplan

The deck is a very straightforward mission solver that makes use of the Dangerous Missions Vedeks and their abilities. Acquire Illicit Explosives is usually solved first, thanks to its Bajor Region gametext, followed by Transport Delegations. Depending on whether it scored any bonus points (Kira Taban, opponent's Guinan or Gav, etc...), the final mission is either Historical Research, or the much easier Protect the Escapees.

    Offense

The deck's major strength is its speed. With Bareil's ability you get Vedeks in play at the cost of discards. High-cost personnel in the discards are exchanged with the cheaper Borum, weenies make sure you get all the required skills and attributes out as soon as possible.

At 45 cards, the deck is slim enough to cycle through it quickly, using Days of Atonement and These are the Voyages. All the Interrupts in the deck support the offense. Rite and Instincts generate the much-needed skills for dilemmas; Dark Secrets is a rarely used card that can take any opponent by surprise when suddenly it is revealed and lets you pass a carefully calculated Excalbian Drama or Where No One Has Gone Before with ease; and Stricken Dumb is a great help to allow one more to pass through the popular An Issue of Trust or Personal Duty. The QSD is not used as often, though its range boost can be crucial to getting that one extra attempt.

    Defense

Odo's kill-preventing ability is all the defense this deck has to offer, but keeping even a single key personnel alive for the next turn can decide the outcome of the game, though in general this deck can afford to lose a bunch of personnel to dilemmas or combat/engagement because of its decent redundancy of skills and attributes.

In the Pah-Wraith's Wake is a cheap event killer. It can be played three times in this deck, and is usually used to get rid of either Machinations or any key cards of an opponent's engine (e.g., Quintessence vs. Borg).

Any card can be recycled directly from the discard pile with Ranjen Koral, or by putting it under your deck with Vedek Assembly. By the end of the game, you should have drawn through all the cards of your deck at least once, and have key interrupts or personnel ready to grab and play them when you need them for the last attempt.

And since QSD and Tolian Soran were already in the deck, the next logical step was to include the Phoenix as well. For one additional card slot you get the opportunity to force the opponent to complete a fourth mission.

Note: The dilemma pile is missing the IaMD dilemmas Aftereffects, The Dal'Rok, and Preventative Repercussions. The mission selection is missing Historical Research.
