    Stellar flares release tremendous amounts of energy and emit radiation across the entire electromagnetic spectrum. Large flares can cause severe damage throughout a star system.

    Another "damages ship" space dilemma... nothing special? Look again. Unlike most dilemmas, which affect only the ship actually attempting the mission, this one damages all ships at the location that don't have the required skills or SHIELDS. The SHIELDS requirement is a stiff one (12 or higher). While the skills requirement of 2 Navigation and Astrophysics might be easily met by a well-staffed attempting ship (they're pretty common skills to have for space missions anyway), they're unlikely to be available on a "red-shirting" shuttlecraft or any other ships that may be around the location. Intercept Maquisimage in particular is a logical place to seed this, as most players will supply the total WEAPONS needed for the attempt from more than one ship.

    Of course, it will affect the opponent's ships as well, so be careful about hanging around any mission where you have seeded this; you don't want to get caught there without the proper skills if your opponent decides to attempt the mission.

    Combo:

    • Stellar Flare + Battle Bridge side deck: Get creative with your damage - casualties can be just as detrimental to your opponent's strategy as destroying his ship.
