Hikaru Sulu (Savage Security Chief) is an alternate universe personnel soon to be released in the In a Mirror, Darkly expansion. He shares at least a few traits with his counterpart, Senior Helmsman; the skills of Biology and Physics are welcome on both personnel. However, the Security Chief version offers 2 Security in place of the 2 Navigation he held as Helmsman. In addition, his savageness really shines when you realize he also holds 2 Treachery in place of that Astrometrics!
That Treachery makes him useful for any Federation affiliation deck in which he can be played, but it comes at the cost of a lower Integrity than his Helmsman counterpart. Since dilemmas like Back Room Dealings have become staples at many tournaments, though, Sulu's Treachery and lowered Integrity may prove beneficial.
In addition to his skills, attributes, and alternate universe icon, Hikaru Sulu (Savage Security Chief) also holds a command icon and a past icon, making him very flexible for various deck configurations. Most notable, though, is his game text, which allows you to play him at cost plus one (for a total of only three counters!) if you already command another alternate universe personnel. If you do so, you may draw a card for each of your Original Series Treachery personnel in play. Following that action, you must place the same number of cards on the bottom of your deck (in any order), but this is a very useful feat. This is especially true during the middle of the game when you find yourself with a lot of personnel in play (perhaps in a Treachery-oriented deck?), and several ‘extra' cards in your hand like a third ship, duplicate copies of unique personnel, etc. A personnel with the ability to execute his own personal version of D'Arsay Archive is a handy feature in any universe. So, look into the dark mirror, and reflect upon the savage possibilities...
