How many space missions require the skills of Astrometrics or Science? Indeed, many of them do! So, why not equip everyone aboard with the ability to acquire these skills just by being on your ship? That's the power of Columbia, The Second Warp Five Ship. When facing a dilemma, you may discard a card from hand to give any mission team member either of these skills. Moreover, the personnel doesn't immediately forget the skill when the dilemma is gone. Instead, they retain it until the end of the mission attempt, which means they have the skill if/when needed to meet mission requirements! Even better, this is not limited to once per turn, or even once per dilemma. Just remember to keep plenty of cards in your hand, so you may use this ability when needed!
Imagine how easy it becomes to Investigate Stalled Ship aboard Columbia: You start with a crew that may even completely lack the skills of Astrometrics and Science. During your mission attempt, however, you face a dilemma with at least four cards in your hand, and by executing the special text on Columbia four times, you have all of the skills necessary to complete the mission! Be wary, though, of those skill-tracking opponents who may be wise to your ploy. If they know you do not possess the skills without executing Columbia's text, they know they shouldn't give you any dilemmas at all.
The fun aboard Columbia doesn't stop with skill enhancements. As with many other Starfleet affiliation cards, Columbia includes game text that encourages you to complete a space mission before any planet mission. If you do so, Columbia's attributes are increased by one for the rest of the game.
Its low cost of four counters, easy staffing requirements, and special abilities all make Columbia a natural fit for many Starfleet affiliation decks. But wait, that's not all... check out the Columbia's commander, and see how this ship can be even more appealing!
