Samantha Wildman, First Mother on Voyager

This Card-Review article was written by openCards user Graves and was published first on "Decipher's Website (decipher.com)" at Nov 2nd, 2006.

Of all the Voyager crew, Samantha Wildman was probably the one for whom I had the most sympathy. Being a parent myself, I can't even begin to imagine how this lonely, young mother must have felt, out there, lost in space.

Samantha Wildman, First Mother on Voyager is a two-cost personnel with three skills representing her expertise in the field. Her attributes are not exceptional, even though she has a nice Integrity of 6. Her ability must be inspired by the episode Once Upon a Time, in which she almost dies in a shuttle crash – an emotional episode in which she hopes everything could last just that little bit longer.

When played, this personnel can return a non-dilemma card from your decay event to its owner's hand. No big deal you think, because since it has to be a non-dilemma card, she can't be combined with Quarantine. She is no Borg (by affiliation), and therefore unusable with Unyielding. Both true. As a matter of fact, for the moment, she only can be used to return a card from The Play's the Thing and Security Drills, unless you use some Interstellar Treaty / Finding Our Way tricks (or the likes thereof). Security Drills is certainly a great card, quite worthy of having its decaying life extended, but let's talk more about The Play's the Thing.

Samantha's effect on The Play's The Thing is to enable your 3+ cost personnel to have their Future, Past or Alternate Universe icon for four rounds instead of three. This could be very beneficial, considering that a card like Tampering With Time, Temporal Test Subjectt or Temporal Delineation can be used one extra round.

This young mother sure knows how to stretch more things than just a fairy tale.
